This week's Abundance writing roundup 🗞️

Last weekend Sebastian from Sidewalk Chorus hosted a group of Maximum New York alumni for a Write for Abundance writing workshop in Lenox Hill. Over the course of a couple hours we took down some tasty snacks while also getting feedback on ideas, completing research, and finally publishing our writing about New York City, civics, and increasing abundance.
In roughly the order of posting, here’s a roundup of the writing that we cranked out during the workshop 👇
First, Andrew from Good Vibrations wrote about an Open Community Board project to commit the bylaws for Brooklyn’s Community Board 1 to code:
Next, Sangheetha from Mapping NYC published an overview of Intro 501, a City Council Bill that would add some teeth to reporting blocked bike or bus lanes:
Daniel from Maximum New York gave us a quick summary of why and how the boroughs that form New York City today consolidated in 1898:
Sebastian from Sidewalk Chorus published an overview of housing subsidies in New York City, e.g. how the city assists some low-income New Yorkers with housing costs:
Priya from offscript wrote about Singapore’s efforts to transform the locale into a "garden city” and what New York City can learn from that success:
Dipali from Metro Mosaic wrote an overview of New York City’s City Council, redistricting, and the low turnout for the recent City Council primaries:
Finally, as a bonus — not a formal post, but here’s a note I wrote on some thoughts about how the New York Public Library could be better utilized given how the public is actually engaging with it:
I’m nearing the email post length limit so I’ll leave it at that — please consider reading, subscribing, and commenting on the posts above. We’ll keep you posted on what gets published after the next workshop!
